Lebanese Wedding Reception at Terra Casa Villa
The memory of a wedding reception can linger for any number of reasons: the great music, the spirited atmosphere, the location, the marvelous weather, the fantastic food. The reception described here was memorable for all of the above reasons, and not just for the guests but for everyone who was involved in staging this Lebanese wedding.
Marwa and Gath arrived from Lebanon for their wedding and stayed in Aegina for more than a week along with their friends to make every crazy idea they had a reality. Some of those ideas included hiring boats and touring the islands of the Saronic Gulf, and organising visits to the archaeological sites of the Acropolis and the Temple of Aphaea. They also hosted dinners at beautiful locations and held a party almost every day at a beach or bar on Aegina Island.
The highlight was the Lebanese wedding reception held on the terrace with a view of the Saronic at Terra Casa Villa in Vathi village of Aegina, where the couple also stayed with some of their guests. The tables, lighting and sound system were arranged on the grounds of the villa with the stone-built walls reminiscent of a castle, and the magnificent seafood buffet was catered by Nontas restaurant. Sound and music provided by Echo Sound.
The actual ceremony took place at midday at the Aegina Town Hall. The groom and guests waited for the bride outside the Town Hall, amongst the traditional coffee houses and passing well-wishers. Immediately following the ceremony, everyone headed for the Remvi Coffee-Bar where drinks were served and guests danced the afternoon away until the wedding reception dinner was ready. It was a special experience for all of us, as we had the chance to have the experience of a Lebanese wedding and culture and follow Marwa and Gaith and their guests and share a celebration from another culture that is nevertheless so similar to that of Greece. The sound of Arabic music and dancing could not be recorded in the following images, but the rest is all there.
