Life is a Beach Wedding Party!
As we observe people going about their lives, we realise that human beings have many different ways of expressing themselves – through their occupation, their art, the way they dress or dance, their diverse cuisines and even through religion. I make these same observations as a wedding photographer. In fact, one could say that a wedding is just another form of expression for the couple. Aside from the actual ritual, which does not vary much in Greek weddings, the rest can be entirely different for every couple. This might range from the place where the bride and groom get ready to the music, the food, the clothes worn by the couple, the bride’s hair and makeup and the traditions of the families. Of particular interest are the dances, which vary from couple to couple according to their background, traditions and taste. These are the details that make each wedding unique, even if the differences are only subtle. The result is still a singular expression of the couple’s preferences.
The Beach Wedding Party in Lagonisi
One such wedding was that of Nikos and Vicky in Athens. As you will see in the wedding photos, the features that set this wedding apart were not all that subtle, as the couple, instead of holding a traditional reception, chose to invite their guests to a midday beach wedding party at which all the guests arrived in their bathing suits, regardless of age. The wedding ceremony was held at Agio Dimitrio of Saronikos at 14:00 and after the ceremony and family photographs, we headed for the Oasis 38 beach bar at Lagonisi, where a luxurious buffet awaited guests along a beautiful beach. The couple arrived at the beach party in an inflatable boat and was greeted by the guests with champagne and dancing. Most of the guests went for a quick dip before turning their attention to the buffet. At about 18:00, the party started off with a round of shots, in-between swimming and endless dancing in the late afternoon Attica light. The best thing about midday weddings is that the couple and its guests have the whole day ahead to celebrate, in contrast with afternoon weddings where the celebration can only last into the early morning hours.
The Wedding Photography
There is also greater photographic potential, as the wedding photographer can take advantage of the natural light and background to capture moments of celebration and joy. It is much more challenging to do the same at nighttime, when any background, no matter how spectacular, is hidden by darkness. The result here, as you will see, is a number of natural photographs that capture the joy, spontaneity and love of the event.
Thank you for the lovely moments and magnificent images. Nikos and Vicky, my best wishes as you celebrate your life together and never forget that “life is a beach”!
