Baptism at the sea of Agioi Anargyroi Aegina

The priest of the Church of Saints Anargyroi of Aegina, father Konstantinos, is known for his sensitivity with children and perhaps that was one of the reasons that the baptism took place in a quiet, discreet and sweet way on a quiet beach, near the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi of Aegina.

Initially, the idea of baptism in the sea seems impressive, different. Having testimonies from fellow baptism photographers who had the luck to capture this different approach to the sacrament, they had enough difficulties, both for the priest, as well as for the guests and photographers, which justified the rarity of the event.

The reasons are many and perhaps at this stage I don’t need to mention them but only to share my own personal experience of photographing a baptism in the Sea.

The priest of the Church of Agioi Anargyroi in Aegina, father Konstantinos, is known for his sensitivity with children and perhaps that was one of the reasons that the baptism took place in a quiet, discreet and sweet way, on a quiet beach near the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi.

The guests few and far between, close personal friends and family members. The process started with the priest taking some time with Dimitris, talking and gaining his trust. A defining moment, because little Dimitris was focused and cooperative throughout the day. The process of catechism began in the Church and immediately after godparents, friends and relatives in an overwhelming march, we crossed the road to the small beach.

Arriving, the Godfathers anointed Dimitris with oil and the priest took him by the hand and they slowly walked a few meters away from the shore. All the guests remained on the shore with our eyes fixed on the holy tabernacle watching a rare and so moving event. It is one of those cases where I am not sure if through the photos of the baptism I can approach the emotions of that moment. The joyous moments continued on our way back to the church, where the priest completed the sacrament and we had the opportunity to capture some commemorative family baptism photos.
These immersion experiences are rare today and it is very beautiful to experience and offer this kind of joy to the people around you. Thanks.
