Theresa and Wouter Wedding in Saliarelis Estate Aegina
The summers are long here in Greece, but once they’re over, I still miss them. On these fall days, at least as a wedding photographer I have beautiful summer weddings to edit and reminisce about. Like Theresa and Wouter’s destination wedding at the Saliarelis estate in Aegina island.
The impressive main house of the Saliarelis estate is surrounded by lush green grounds, and located right by the sea. I’ve shot many weddings here, and it’s always a treat. The estate offers a lot, and Theresa and Wouter took full advantage of this fact; using it for the dressing of the groom, the ceremony, and the reception. While Theresa and her friends got ready at a different location (a fantastic villa with a view in the village of Perdika), and the caterers were setting up the tables under the trees, Wouter dove into the pool at Saliarelis.
The Wedding Ceremony in Saliarelis Estate
While uncommon among the Greeks, having the ceremony and the reception at the same location can help a wedding run so much smoother. Theresa and Wouter are from the Netherlands, and their choice to have a one-stop wedding made things easier for their traveling guests. Cutting out the transportation, as an added bonus, they also got to spend as much time with their loved ones as possible.
During the ceremony, the couple chose to include the traditional Greek “crowning” of the bride and groom, as a respectful nod to their surroundings. Then, after an emotional beginning of the reception, with many tears of joy, they partied the night away in accordance with local tradition. Congratulations Theresa and Wouter, and thank you for letting me be a part of your day!
