Lambros Baptism in Agia Markella of Votanikos - Athens
Sunday afternoon on the road to one of the most vibrant and multicultural parishes of Athens, the parish of Agia Markella Church at Votanikos
The area of Votanikos seems forgotten, but with a second look you realise the purity and tradition in every corner…. I am waiting outside the church to complete the Sunday attending mass when the matrons of Agia Markella parish treating me a refreshing water as they prepare the Sunday’s Greek coffee … I haven’t heard about Agia Markella before and wanted to learn more… It is the only temple in Attica dedicated to Agia Markella from Chios Island which celebrates every year on July 22. The parish is like a village with residents coming from across the globe giving the opportunity to give the message of God, faith and spirituality embracing people regardless of color and religion..
The baptism in Agia Markella – Votanikos
Lambros arrives for his Baptism in Agia Markella in the arms of his grandparents and the decoration of the temple begins! In very little time his parents and the four godparents also reaching and Agia Markella fills with friends and family members to share the joy of Lombros baptism. The church still reminds small parish in a village, inside during the baptism and outside while enjoying the delicacies of Fresh!
What come next of every baptism is the treat… Took place in the beautiful neoclassical building named “Athyri” in Kerameikos.” The feeling of a detached house in the center of Athens, the family portraits in the courtyard and the beautiful light in combination with minimal decoration, continues gives me the feeling of the family hospitality and celebration marking until the end the baptism of Lambros. My favorite photos follows…
